This A Level  Health and Social Care forms part of the vocationally-focused GCEs. This more broad-based qualification provides a more vocational perspective in the areas of Health, Social Care and Early Years Care and Education. The course also offers students, the choice to obtain a qualification that meets both their individual aptitudes and interests.

Prior study at GCSE in Health and Social Care will be useful to students but not essential. This course prepares students to enter a variety of HND or degree level courses in Health and Social Care and related subjects. It also provides a progression route for further training whilst in employment.

The aims of these specifications are to encourage students to:

  • Develop and sustain an interest in health, early-years care and education, social care and issues affecting the care sector.
  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of health, early-years care and education and issues affecting the health and social sector.
  • Develop skills that will enable them to make an effective contribution to the care sector including skills of research, evaluation and problem-solving in a work related context:
  • Apply knowledge, understanding and skills.
  • Prepare for further study and training.

In this course you will study six units:

F910 - Promoting Quality Care: 100% examination from the course material and some additional Internet research.

F911 - Communication in Care Settings: Portfolio. 80% of the portfolio is based upon research from the course book and some additional research from the Internet. 20% of the marks come from an interaction with a person or a small group of people who use health care services as well as a Self-assessment of the candidates own performance during that interaction.

F912 - Promoting Good Health: Portfolio. 60% of the portfolio is based upon the course material with some additional Internet research. 40% of the marks come from planning and implementing a small scale health promotion campaign and the candidate assessing their own performance.

F919 - Care Practise and Provision: Portfolio. 100% of the portfolio is based upon research from the course material and some additional research on the Internet.

F920 - Understanding Human Behaviour and Development: 100% Examination from the course material and some additional Internet research.

F923 - Mental Health Issues: Portfolio. 100% of the portfolio is based upon research from the course material and some additional research on the Internet.

Basic English reading and writing skills are required. You will need to have general skills and knowledge base associated with a GCSE course or equivalent standard.

All students have one year to complete this course from date of registration. On average this course is completed in 300 hours.

We recommend that students complete 6-8 hours per week as a minimum to get the most from this course. Remember to work out a study plan / timetable before you start and try and stick to it. Coursework can be completed as quickly as you want as shown below.

UK Open College is a privately run college therefore we do not have access to funding

Unfortunately discounts are not available

Q: Can I pay monthly for my course?

Yes! We do offer payment plans for this course to students resident in the UK only. See fees page for further details.

Q: How do I know whether this is the right course for me?

In truth we cannot be sure if this course or indeed home learning will meet every students needs. To help we have a money back guarantee scheme in place which allows students to receive and try the course materials for seven days to establish whether this course is the ideal course for them. If it's not simply notify us via email or telephone within the seven day period for a full refund. No! You can submit course assignments at your own pace. The only deadline is for completion of the whole course which requires students to finish within one year of registration.

No problem! All students have access to a personal tutor for the duration of their course with whom they may correspond with. You are not on your own when you study with us! We really do want you to pass your course!

Q: Will I have to purchase any additional books or materials?

It will state clearly in the course detail if additional books are required. These are not included in the course fees. Students are required to purchase these independantly. They are not provided by the college
