There is a real danger that counselling is losing touch with its roots as, on an ever increasing level, counsellors are working on a long-term basis with clients who are severely disturbed. Counselling was never intended for such a field but was originally developed for those persons who had vocational or educational problems, those with life crises and those who wished to explore and develop further.This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and awareness of students who are seeking to mature and grow within their chosen fields.
Entry requirements: There are no previous skills or qualifications required to register for this study programme. Qualification: Both qualifications are issued upon successful completion Qualification 1: Counselling Skills Advanced DiplomaDiploma entitling you to use the letters SAC Dip, after your name Qualification 2: ASET Counselling Skills Advanced DiplomaThis Course leads to an ASET Level 3 Award Certificate for successful learners. That means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework (NFQ) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland (in which case GCSE's are at levels 1 and 2 and A Levels are at level 3). The Award has been designed by a learning provider to meet specific learners' or employers' requirements and as such is not listed as a qualification on NQF. While the duration, content or assessment may vary from similar national qualifications, in accrediting the programme at level 3; ASET attests that its learning outcomes are at an equivalent level to a level 3 national qualification..
Professional MembershipOn completion of this course students can apply for membership to 'Counselling' - a registered charity - and they will be able to use the initials 'CCC Reg.' after their names. Practical Training
Optional practical training is run through the SHTC and is available upon request for this course.
Practical training is not required in order to complete the course. Students will receive both the College Diploma and the ASET Award even if they do not complete the optional practical training.
