Unit 1 - Cost and Management Accounting In this unit, you review the important role played by management accounting in the business world, for example, helping management in decision-making, policy formulation and the achievement of objectives. We contrast historical costing with predetermined costing and look at how costs are classified. This unit provides you with a brief introduction to cost and management accounting with particular attention being paid to absorption costing and marginal costing. Unit 2 - Budgetary Control Budgetary control is a technique that is essential to the success and survival of any organisation, large or small. In this unit, we illustrate the principles, and what is considered to be good practice. We then consider the benefits of budgeting and follow with a concise appraisal of the rules for effective budgeting. We also produce budgeted profit and loss accounts and budgeted balance sheets, which, together with the cash budget, make up what many companies call the master budget. By the end of this unit you will have:
Unit 3 - Introduction to Accounting In this unit, we begin by looking at the background to accounting. We identify different types of business and organisations, and how accounting can serve their needs. We clarify the different areas of financial accounting, management or managerial accounting, and financial management. We consider the basic concepts, conventions and policies adopted when preparing financial statements. We explore the vital differences between profit, profitability and cash flow. By the end of this unit you will have:
Unit 4 - Working Capital Management In this unit we look at the structure of working capital, the role of working capital management within corporate financial objectives. The significance of the production cycle and the financing cycle and their roles in the working capital cycle are investigated. We look critically at the traditional accounting approach to working capital management and specifically the concepts of solvency and liquidity. There are no previous skills or qualifications required to register for this study programme.

On average this course is completed in 100 hours (8/9 months). Extensions can be arranged if students do not complete within the year and charges will apply. We would ask you to contact our office on 0800 0131030 for latest extension fees if required. We recommend that students complete 2-3 hours per week as a minimum to get the most from this course. Remember to work out a study plan / timetable before you start and try and stick to it.
This course is issued in paper format. Your course materials will be delivered to you at the specified address within 7 days of enrolment. International students should allow up to 21 days for delivery.

This course is completed using continual assessment, allowing your tutor to closely monitor your progress every step of the way. Therefore no examination is required. This course consists of four lessons overall. Students will be required to submit assignments after each lesson via email or post proving their understanding of the subject covered. These assignments normally take between 1-2 hours to complete. A grade and report will be issued on your progress with any suggestions for improvement if necessary. The only deadline is for completion of the whole course which requires students to finish within one year of registration. Q: What if I have questions relating to my course or have problems understanding some of the questions? No problem! All students have access to a personal tutor for the duration of their course with whom they may correspond with. You are not on your own when you study with us! We really do want you to pass your course! Q: Will I have to purchase any additional books or materials? No! We provide all the required course materials to enable you to complete your studies.
