Food Safety course via Online e-learning.  The UK Open College  "Food Safety Level Two" course is ideal for anyone requiring the basic level of food safety training: food handlers, waiters, kitchen assistants, chefs and food samplers or demonstrators.

Our online Food Safety training is aimed at large or small businesses and individual users. Food Safety has been built on the Royal Institute of Public Health's food hygiene syllabus and is recognised by Environmental Health Officers.


The course is broken down into an introduction, five modules and an assessment. The introduction presents the main principles of working hygienically. The remainder of the course expands and reinforces food safety skills, and includes an explanation of bacteria and the food safety scheme HACCP.

Food safety's five main modules are:

  • Module 1 - Food handling:
    Personal hygiene, washing hands, illness, cross contamination, raw and cooked food, chopping boards.
  • Module 2 - Food poisoning:
    Bacteria, bacteriology, high risk foods, symptoms of food poisoning, toxins, microbiology.
  • Module 3 - Food control:
    Allergens, HACCP, Delivery of food, storage conditions, dry foods, temperature control, danger temperatures, freezing, reheating.
  • Module 4 - Cleaning and waste:
    Cleaning fluids, protective clothing, waste management, pests.
  • Module 5 - Complaints and law:
    Complaint procedures, legal consequences, fines, food poisoning complaints.
There are no previous skills or qualifications required to register for this study programme. This course is open to students of all ages and backgrounds. Enrolments can be taken at anytime of the year unlike the traditional local college who tend only to enrol in September. Our course content is audited by independent Environmental Health Officers to ensure that our material is mapped against National Occupational Standards.
The course takes approximately two and a half hours to complete and progress can be saved, enabling you to return to it later and start where you left off. You can access the course as many times as you like within a year.
This course is completed online within the college online learning portal. Access details and password are emailed direct to students within 2 Working days of enrolment. We use audio visual, interactive animation to deliver our courses in an enjoyable and refreshing format.


Please note that you will need speakers or headphones as it is an interactive audio-visual course.
This course has a multiple-choice assessment. The questions are randomly selected from a bank of questions. The assessment can be taken as many times as needed to pass. Once passed the trainee can instantly print their certificate proving succesful completion.
Course Notes

We have added an additional feature to our Food Safety, Health & Safety, Fire Safety and Hazard Awareness courses whereby, after successfully completing the assessment at the end, you are able to download a full set of course notes. These can be saved to your computer or printed out. They contain the key points from the course content and are useful as a quick reference guide.

Management

For supervisors with multiple trainees we provide a management control panel. The control panel allows supervisors to add trainees, monitor their progress and print certificates.
