Tutors

Our Tutors are selected for their ability to make things simple and straight forward for our students.

It is important that our students have access to support and advice when required. One of the biggest concerns for students looking to enrol onto a home learning programme is the level of support on offer.

The majority of our courses come with full unlimited support from Monday to Friday. Excluding self study courses!

We offer a variety of ways in which our students can correspond with the college and their tutors. Choose between using the telephone, email, freepost or even live chat to correspond with us. You can use them all if you want to.

Tutor details are normally provided inside your study pack or allocated once we receive your first assignment for grading. We aim to provide continual support from the same tutor throughout your course. We don’t like to chop and change tutors. We want you to build a rapport and confidence within your chosen field.

Your tutor will have a wealth of knowledge for you to tap into once you decide to enrol. Never be embarrassed to ask questions. No matter how silly you think it might be, if it’s stopping you progressing please contact us. We really have heard it all before. Most minor questions can be answered by the support team using the live chat button. This will give you an instant response to any question you may have. This is a fantastic tool to use even before enrolling and can help tremendously when researching which course to finally enrol onto.

For each assignment you submit you will receive a written report and grade via email or through the post. Reports can contain helpful hints and tips to help you improve as you progress. We have had tremendous feedback from our students relating to tutor support and guidance. See some of the comments on our feedback page. We are more than happy to include comments of your own once you complete.

Meet the tutors and support team:

Shelley:

Subjects: Sage accounts, Payroll, Word and Excel

What Shelley doesn’t know about Sage software isn’t worth knowing. Shelley’s vast experience in this field paired with a passion for figures makes her the ideal person for this role, a big favourite with the students due to her enthusiasm and caring nature. A valuable addition to the college since joining earlier this year!

Stephanie:

Subjects: Manual bookkeeping

Stephanie knows exactly what is required to complete a home learning course as she was once a student herself. Juggling a family with her studies gives Stephanie the ideal credentials to help and encourage our students. An ICB registered member, with private clients of her own. You’re in safe hands with “our Steph”

Kal (Kalvinder):

Subjects: Computers and I.T

Kal has been with the college since the very beginning and has helped many students through their studies over the years. A Leicester lad born and bred Kal combines his love of computers with his passion for following his local football team (Chelsea). He swears blind he’s from Leicester. Kal was also a home learning student many years ago so again can relate to what our students are thinking and feeling.

Debbie

Subjects: Health and Beauty

A practising holistic therapist, Debbie’s huge knowledge of this subject would take forever to put into words. A mum of two young boys and a real love for beauty and Holistic’s give her the exact credentials to care and support the many students who enrol with the college to achieve their ambitions.

Brian

Subjects: Business and Project Management

Brian is a retired ex company director. For many years he ran a small engineering company in Yorkshire before finding his niche. We couldn’t let all that business acumen go to waste. His knowledge of management, finance and planning can only be admired. A real natural in his field, a valuable team member!

Gloria

Subjects: Childcare and Social studies

Gloria has worked with children for many years ranging from new born to teens. A wealth of experience also in social care and a youth worker for 10 years make her invaluable to our students. Now retired, Gloria concentrates solely on course assessment and development. We’d be lost without her!!

Dawn:

Tutor liaison

Dawn keeps all the tutors on their toes and ensures we have a steady turn around of course reports and assessments so students can progress at a good pace. Dawn’s reliability and professionalism make her vital to both the students and the college, a huge responsibility which she takes in her stride.

The team above are the main bulk of the support team at the UK Open College; however we also have a network of other tutors relating to other subjects. Please be assured whichever subject you choose you will be provided by full support and guidance from a fully competent tutor.
